About Milfoil in Billings Lake
Eurasian watermilfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum) is an invasive aquatic plant that has been found in Billings Lake. This plant can form dense mats that cover the floor of the lake, affecting the ecosystem, swimming and boating.
What You Can Do
- Clean, Drain, and Dry your boat and equipment before entering and after leaving the lake
- Remove any visible plant fragments from your boat, trailer, and equipment
- Report new infestations to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP)
- Learn to identify milfoil and other invasive species
